​Historically a cowboy town, Revelstoke at the Mecca of heli-skiing has long been an innovator, a town hitting far above its weight. We said “passive, or nothing” - This is how we delivered this iconic building and won in the face of huge adversity. The owners dedication and allowance to build passive, with relative free reign on the project course, provided the framework to push through barriers of not only technical difficulty, but also engineering and understanding of old and new systems for construction were tested.

 

The result is an exemplary building and a leap catapulting Passive into the spotlight. Using a combination of prefabricated concrete walls, and mass timber (LIGNATUR) along with CLT to facilitate an aggressive build schedule, the Tantrum building came to light in the spring and summer of 2019. We received passive certification early 2020 marking the first certified passive commercial building in North America.
